Central Bank of Myanmar Governor Dr Khin Naing Oo received Charge d’Affaires ad interim Mr Yordying Supasri of the Royal Thai Embassy to Myanmar, and his team at the Central Bank of Myanmar in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
The Thai charge d’affaires ad interim discussed banking matters between the two countries, expressing gratitude for the support of the CBM in facilitating the Thai private sector’s trade and financial transactions, particularly regarding foreign exchange rates. He welcomed the policy of gradually easing the conversion of export proceeds into Myanmar currency and conveyed the interest of Thai businesspeople in expanding investment in Myanmar using Thai baht, as well as further strengthening trade and investment ties. He also stated that technical assistance would be provided if needed.
The CBM Governor stated that the bank is working to achieve monetary stability, maintain exchange rate stability, reduce inflation, strengthen the payment and settlement system, and ensure the stability of the banking sector, adding that the Thai baht can be used not only in trade but also in investment in Myanmar, while both sides discussed financial, trade, and banking matters as well as technical issues and agreed that the CBM would coordinate and cooperate with Thai banks openly and constructively.
The meeting was attended by the deputy governors and departmental heads of the CBM.
