To commemorate Union Day, the Myanmar Tea Festival will be held for four days this month at Sein Lan So Pyay Garden on Inya Lake Bank, Yangon.

It will take place from 11 to 14 February. The event aims to support the nomination of Myanmar’s tea culture for the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, introduce Myanmar’s wet tea culture to the world, and highlight the symbolism of “Union” for the combination of wet tea from the highlands with sesame oil, peanut oil, and assorted fried beans from the lowlands.

The festival is intended to help the public, including the younger generation, deeply understand, appreciate, and preserve the Myanmar tradition of eating wet tea. A special feature of the “Tea Talk” discussion will also be included.

“The Myanmar Tea Festival will run for four days, from 11 to 14 February, in honour of the Union Day. We will include a special ‘Tea Talk’ where we will share educational insights into the history of tea,” said Daw Sandar Khin, Chairperson of the Myanmar Cultural Heritage Trust.

It will feature displays of various types of tea, exhibition booths for beans and pulses, traditional Myanmar food stalls, and cooking demonstrations to include Myanmar tea in international cuisines.
