The Myanmar government is taking its national responsibility to combat online fraud and online gambling, both of which pose a threat to the international community, seriously. It is actively cooperating with neighbouring and regional countries, as well as international organizations, to identify, arrest, and take effective and severe action against those involved in online scam centre operations and the foreign individuals behind them. In addition, foreigners who have entered Myanmar for various reasons are being investigated in accordance with the law, with due consideration for humanitarian concerns and friendly relations between countries, and those found to be involved are being repatriated to their respective countries.
The police of Cambodia and relevant departments transferred the Myanmar nationals who were suspected of being involved in online fraud and gambling in Cambodia to the Myanmar Embassy to Cambodia. To date, the Myanmar government repatriated 729 nationals by MAI and Tatmadaw aircraft.
Of the returnees from Cambodia, 543 citizens repatriated by Tatmadaw aircraft to Myeik boarded Tatmadaw vessels from Seiknage jetty in Myeik. They were then transferred to Tatmadaw vessel (Mottama) waiting near Mawtongyi village in Kyunsu Township. Commander of the Coastal Region Command Maj-Gen Kyaw Kyaw Han, along with officials and departmental representatives from Myeik district and township levels, observed the repatriation processes.
Tatmadaw vessel (Mottama) left Myeik for Yangon on 27 January night, and the returnees were provided with personal items, healthcare and food on the ship. The ship arrived at No 3 jetty in Yangon yesterday morning, and officials from the Ministry of Immigration and Population, with the supervision of Thanlyin District Administrative and Management Committee, checked the numbers of returnees while the Thanlyin District Health Department provided healthcare services, and the relevant officials also presented food to them.
They were then transferred to the designated point by the vehicles arranged by the Yangon Region government.
