Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission Senior General Min Aung Hlaing made an inspection tour of the Paper Mill (Thaboung) operated by Myanmar Economic Corporation yesterday afternoon.

At the briefing hall of the mill, officials reported to the Senior General on the brief history of the mill, accomplishment of the guidance given by the Senior General, appointment of the employees, financial reports of the mill, production of newsprint and distribution of the mill, production and distribution of newsprint at the 60-tonne newsprint factory, test-running of the 50-tonne advanced paper mill, production of the 60-tonne pulp factory and the 40-tonne briquette factory, and plans. In his guidance, the Senior General said that the government imports different types of paper abroad annually due to domestic demand. Efforts must be made to achieve success in the production of paper to reduce the import volume of paper as well as cut the spending on foreign exchange. Cultivation of trees and bamboo to fulfil the requirements of industrial raw materials can contribute to environmental conservation in addition to the creation of job opportunities for residents. As pulp is crucial for paper production, all has to make strenuous efforts for the production.

The Senior General and officials inspected the processing of crushing raw bamboo pieces at the pulp production factory, the production process of paper at the 50-tonne advanced paper mill, newsprint production at the 60-tonne newsprint mill, and the functions of the briquette factory and gave necessary guidance to officials.
