THE Myanmar Writers Association organized a respect-paying ceremony to doyen literati marking Myanmar Literati Day or Sarsodaw Day in Yangon yesterday.

Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, State Security and Peace Commission Chairman, and Defence Services Commander-in-Chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and his wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla donated over K14.5 million worth of clothes and accessories to the event.

At the event, Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn handed over the clothes and accessories comprising of Eaingyi and Longyi (Myanmar outfit), purses, scarves and batiks donated by the Senior General and his wife to Myanmar Writers Association Chairman Alinka Kyaw Swa U Ohn Maung (Myinmu Maung Naing Moe).

Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn presented K10 million donated by National Defence and Security Council and K3 million donated by the Ministry of Information to the Myanmar Writers Association Chairman, whereas Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein presented K28.8 million donated by Yangon Region Government, Yangon Mayor U Bo Htay K3 million donated by YCDC, and the relevant officials K1.5 million by Yangon Region USDP and K1.5 million donated by UMFCCI respectively, and received certificates of honour in return.

After the ceremonial procedures, the attendees paid respect to 288 elderly literati, and Sayagyi Ledwintha Saw Chit delivered words of advice on behalf of the elderly.
