The fourth day of the Science Festival 2025, jointly organized by the State Atomic Energy Corporation of the Russian Federation (Rosatom) and the Ministry of Science and Technology, continued yesterday at the Nuclear Technology Information Centre in Yangon and at Yangon Technological University.

Deputy Minister for Science and Technology Dr Aung Zeya, directors-general from the Department of Atomic Energy and the Department of Advanced Science and Technology, together with officials from ROSATOM and Russian universities, attended and encouraged the festival.

The Nuclear Quest competition was held at 9 am at the Nuclear Technology Information Centre, where three hundred and fifty basic education students took part. This was followed by a talk titled “Sustainable Development and Environmental Benefits of SMR,” delivered by Dr Alexender Nakhebov, Deputy Head of the Department of Nuclear Physics and Engineering at the Obninsk Institute for Nuclear Power Engineering, National Research Nuclear University (MEPhI). Participants raised questions and discussed the topic, and the Deputy Minister joined the discussion with coordinated inputs.

Similarly, a panel discussion on future technology and innovation was held in the morning at Yangon Technological University. Yangon Technological University Rector Dr Hla Myo Tun, Director-General Dr Aung Moe of the Department of Atomic Energy, and Associate Professor Dr Fomin Roman from MEPhI spoke and exchanged views.

In the afternoon, the second-day programme of the HackAtom competition continued at Yangon Technological University. Ten teams, each comprising eleven university students, presented their innovative ideas and information by developing computer software applications and websites based on a 4D proposal designed to build small modular nuclear power plants and support regional development. A panel of judges composed of Russian and Myanmar experts raised questions and evaluated the presentations. The award ceremony followed, during which the Deputy Minister and officials presented prizes to the winners.

Later in the afternoon, another round of Nuclear Quest was held at the Nuclear Technology Information Centre, with participation from fifty university students. This was followed by “The Energy of the Future – Time Capsule” event, attended by the Deputy Minister, the Director-General of the Department of Atomic Energy, and officials from Rosatom. The programmes of this year’s Science Festival were successfully conducted.

Science festivals jointly organized by Rosatom and the Ministry of Science and Technology began in 2023. This year marks the third edition of the festival, coinciding meaningfully with the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Russia-Myanmar Friendly Cooperation Declaration and the eightieth anniversary of the founding of the nuclear industry in Russia. The festival was held for two days in Nay Pyi Taw and two days in Yangon, effectively broadening the dissemination of knowledge, awareness and perspectives related to nuclear technology.
