Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and State Security and Peace Commission Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing welcomed President of the Republic of Belarus Mr Aleksandr Lukashenko, who paid an official visit to Myanmar, with the Guard of Honour at the Hsinbyutaw Hall of the Presidential Residence yesterday morning.
The special motorcade accompanying the President of the Republic of Belarus arrived at the Presidential Residence, welcomed by a Cavalry Guard of Honour escort. The Senior General extended a warm and cordial reception.
The Senior General and the Belarusian President took the salute of the Guard of Honour. Meanwhile, the artillery unit honoured the two Heads of State with a 21-gun salute.
They inspected the Guard of Honour and presented their entourages reciprocally.
The Belarusian President signed the visitors’ book of the Presidential Residence and posed for documentary photos together with the Senior General.
They held a specific meeting at the Credentials Hall of the Presidential Residence.
At the meeting, the Senior General said that he warmly welcomed His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Belarus, and all members of his delegation to Myanmar. This visit demonstrated Belarus’s goodwill and trust toward Myanmar and marked a historic occasion. It is the first time in 26 years of diplomatic relations that a Belarusian Head of State has visited Myanmar. Such reciprocal goodwill visits enhance diplomatic relations and promote cooperation across multiple sectors between the two countries. The Senior General expressed his gratitude to Belarus, which has consistently supported Myanmar on the international stage. Myanmar also welcomes Belarus’s membership in the BRICS group of countries. Myanmar continues to work toward joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and aspires to become a member of BRICS and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). So, the Senior General expressed his hope that Belarus will continue to provide its support. He firmed his belief that this visit by the President of Belarus would provide an opportunity to discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.
In his response, the Belarusian President expressed his sincere gratitude for the warm and cordial welcome extended to his delegation by Myanmar and said he felt deeply honoured and pleased to witness the preparations and hospitality provided by the country. He noted that although the two countries are geographically distant, their friendship and goodwill continue to grow steadily. Belarus, as an industrialized nation with advanced technologies in industry, pharmaceuticals, education, and agriculture, is prepared to fully cooperate with Myanmar in these key sectors. Collaboration will also be strengthened in military technologies and trade. Relevant officials from both countries have successfully organized economic forums and discussed areas for further economic cooperation. The Myanmar-Belarus Development Cooperation Roadmap 2026–2028 has been drafted and will continue to be implemented. Belarus consistently supports Myanmar in the international arena and welcomes Myanmar’s mutually cooperative measures.
Both sides cordially exchanged views on further enhancement of bilateral economic cooperation and investment, promotion of cooperation in multiple sectors including education, health, industry, agriculture, livestock breeding and military technologies, efforts of the Myanmar government, as part of serving the national duty, in eradicating telecom fraud and online gambling activities harming the international community and the entire world, taking precaution and acts with vigilance over telecom fraud and online gambling activities along the Myanmar-Thailand border which poses unconventional security challenges, spreading of these activities starting from 2020 after the COVID-19 pandemic infection, activities of online gambling which rooted at border regions in cooperation with illegal armed groups taking advantages of weakening rule of law at a time when Myanmar faced political instability in 2021, detaining some 70,000 foreign nationals from 52 countries from the sites of online gambling activities and repatriation processes, preparations to transfer some 1,000 remaining foreign detainees to mother countries, the complete demolition of illegally built structures not to root the telecom fraud and online gambling and other criminal activities and plans to totally wipe off these activities, preparations being made to hold a multiparty democratic general election in Myanmar soon, and a plan of Belarus to send an observation team to Myanmar, and further promotion of multiple sectors between the two countries including friendship and cooperation sectors.
The meeting was also attended by SSPC Secretary and Joint Executive Chief General Ye Win Oo, Union ministers, and the Myanmar Ambassador to Belarus. The Belarusian President was accompanied by high-ranking officials from the Belarusian government and ministers.
After the meeting, the Senior General and the Belarusian President had documentary photos taken.
