A total of 317 foreign nationals — comprising 269 Indian nationals, 31 Lao nationals, 16 Vietnamese nationals, and one South Korean national — who had illegally entered Myanmar via border routes, often through neighbouring countries including Thailand, and committed crimes such as online gambling and online scam in the Shwe Kokko, Maehtawthalay (KK Park), and Kyaukkhat areas of Myawaddy Township, Kayin State, have been handed over to their respective countries.

The repatriation was carried out across the Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge II, in accordance with legal procedures and guided by humanitarian principles and the promotion of friendly relations between nations.

Col Min Thu Kyaw, Minister for Security and Border Affairs of the Kayin State Government, and responsible officials monitored and inspected the repatriation process to ensure the efficient and smooth handover of the individuals to their respective countries.

Subsequently, the repatriation and handover ceremony proceeded. Attendees included Deputy Director U Kyaw Kyaw Than, Head of the District Immigration and Population Department, Mr Pranav Ganesh, Counsellor from the Embassy of India in Thailand, Mr Bounkham Manivan, Second Secretary from the Embassy of Laos in Thailand, Mr Le Trung Kien, First Secretary from the Embassy of Vietnam in Thailand, Mr Rhee Wuchan, Counsellor from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Thailand, and officials from the Tak Provincial Immigration Office of Thailand.

During the ceremony, the responsible officials from Myanmar formally handed over the documentary evidence related to the repatriation and acceptance of the nationals to the officials from their respective countries. From 30 January to 18 November 2025, a total of 10,840 foreign nationals who had illegally entered Myanmar were intercepted, identified, and detained.

Out of this total, 9,853 individuals have been systematically repatriated to their respective countries via Thailand, in accordance with legal procedures.

The remaining 987 foreign nationals are currently ready for handover to their countries and are being kept under good care.
