A member of the State Security and Peace Commission, Union Minister for Border Affairs and for Ethnic Affairs Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, and members of the Central Advisory Body of the National Defence and Security Council met ethnic literature and cultural associations at the Malikha Hall of the Kachin State Government Office in Myitkyina yesterday afternoon.

Union Minister Lt-Gen Yar Pyae stated that, although the area is called Kachin State, all ethnic groups live together as in other regions and states, emphasizing the importance of unity among all ethnic groups, outlining Non-distintegration of the Union and Non-disintegration of national solidarity in Our Three Main National Causes, noting the state’s efforts to ensure ethnic groups do not lose their literature, culture, and customs and the need for everyone to help preserve them, stressing the submission of necessary information to the ministry, highlighting the many basic socio-economic needs in ethnic regions and the importance of achieving peace and ethnic unity through political means to enable national development, and calling for cooperation among all ethnic groups.

State Minister for Ethnic Affairs U Kyaw Min Khaing then explained the implementation status of ethnic affairs in the state in accordance with the Union Ministry’s guidelines and instructions. Leaders of the literature and cultural groups of six Kachin ethnic groups, five Shan ethnic groups, and the Bamar, Kayin, Chin, and Rakhine ethnic groups presented and discussed the needs and issues related to carrying out literary and cultural preservation activities for their respective communities.

Afterwards, the Union minister and the State Chief Minister presented awards and souvenirs to representatives of the ethnic literature and cultural groups.

The chief minister discussed how the state government is addressing its needs and the measures presented to the ministry, while the Union minister offered clarifications and delivered a closing speech, after which the ceremony was adjourned.
