Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs and for Hotels and Tourism Jeng Phang Naw Taung, who is also chairman of the Myanmar Olympic Committee, attended the 13th International Sports Forum held from 5-7 November in Samara, Russia.
In the evening of 5 November, the Myanmar delegation led by the Union minister attended the First Asian Cooperation Dialogue Ministerial Meeting on Sports, and the delegates from 16 countries had discussions under themes such as “Russian Sports Forum,” “The Future of National Sports-Reviving Traditions,” “From Global Pathways in Public Sports to International Sports Projects,” and “The Future of Football: Strategic Guidelines for the Russian Premier League in 2030.”
On the morning of 5 November, the Union minister met Russian Deputy Minister for Sports Mr Alexander Nikitian and discussed matters relating to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the field of physical culture and sports between the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs and Russia’s Ministry of Sports. At noon, he met with the Samara Mayor and discussed promoting the standards of Myanmar’s sports and the development of Myanmar’s sports.
In the evening, he met Belarusian Sports Minister Mr Siarhei Kavalchuk and discussed the arrangements for Belarusian coaches specializing in athletics, shooting, canoeing, kayaking, and other boating activities to to be sent to Myanmar starting from 2026 under the MoU.
During the meeting with Mr Yerbol Myrzabosynov, Minister of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan, they exchanged views on gaining trainers to support the development of boxing and wrestling in Myanmar.
On 6 November, the Union minister and party attended the Plenary Session of the XIII International Sports Forum “Russia: Country of Sports”, and the Sports Ministers and senior officials of ACD member countries discussed the measures to promote sports, the use of technology and young athletes.
The Union minister and party visited the Palace of Sports and attended the plenary session themed “Sport for the future: Winning together.” During the meeting, they had discussions with the representatives from 51 countries on national level integration in sports, further development of youth sports, introduction of the latest technologies in the sports industry, practice sessions of Myanmar youths and national athletes in different sports, preparation to participate in the 33rd SEA Games and bilateral cooperation between Russia and Myanmar in sports and youth affairs.
The Union minister and delegates attended the Memorial Parade in Samara on 7 November at noon, and arrived back in Yangon on 9 November.
