Union Minister for Energy U Ko Ko Lwin attended the 2025 International Forum on Energy Transition held yesterday under the leadership of the National Energy Administration (NEA) of the People’s Republic of China, together with energy ministers and senior officials from various countries, and also toured the exhibition booths at the forum.

At the forum, the Union minister delivered a keynote speech titled “Myanmar’s Participation in Energy Security, Energy Safety, and the Energy Transition.” In his address, he discussed the global energy situation, Myanmar’s current energy landscape, and the importance of prioritizing energy security and stability during the energy transition. He also highlighted opportunities for investment in Myanmar’s energy sector, efforts to attract such investments, ongoing collaborations for technological assistance, and the need for global cooperation to overcome challenges in achieving climate-related commitments through energy transition initiatives.

The Myanmar delegation met the delegation led by Mr Wang Hongzhi, head of China’s National Energy Administration (NEA). Both sides exchanged views on bilateral energy policies and strategies, emphasizing the importance of close cooperation between the two nations to ensure energy stability and security during the transition period, collaboration in multi-sector and bilateral agreements, China’s support in three key areas- technology, capital and human resource development which play a key role in transiting into Green Energy, New Energy and further China’s support in electricity utilization more for AI in energy transition processes.

The Chinese side openly stated that China has been expanding energy cooperation with countries in the Middle East and Africa and is ready to work with Myanmar by taking advantage of its strategic geographical position.
