A coordination meeting on the dredging and construction of retaining walls along the Mae Sai Creek to prevent flooding along the Myanmar-Thailand border was held at the Yeiktha meeting hall in Wamkaung Ward, Tachilek, eastern Shan State, on the morning of 17 October. The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister for Transport and Communications U Aung Kyaw Tun, Deputy Minister for Construction U Myo Myint, and departmental officials.
Officials from the Tachilek District Administration Body first explained the current flooding situation in Tachilek, ongoing flood prevention works, maintenance of dams and sluice gates, and the progress of sand and gravel extraction along the Mae Sai Creek. Deputy Minister U Aung Kyaw Tun then gave instructions related to the implementation of the projects.
After the meeting, the Deputy Ministers inspected the 1,420-foot-long concrete retaining wall project in Ponhton Ward, the concrete retaining wall near Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge I, the sluice gate construction being carried out by the Department of Urban and Housing Development, and the sluice gate project near Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge II being implemented by the Department of Water Resources and River Development.
