Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and State Security and Peace Commission Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing met departmental officials and town elders of Cocokyun to talk about regional development yesterday afternoon.

On their arrival, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and his wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla were warmly welcomed by departmental officials, students and residents at Cocokyun Airport.
The Senior General met departmental officials and town elders at the town hall to discuss regional development initiatives.

Also, present at the meeting were Commission Secretary and Joint Executive Chief General Ye Win Oo, Union ministers, senior Tatmadaw officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the Yangon Region chief minister and the commander of the Yangon Command.

The township administrator reported to the Senior General on preparations to hold the elections, demonstration on use of Myanmar Electronic Voting Machine-MEVM, progress of agriculture and livestock activities, supply of water from the Coco Dam, distribution of water from the water purifiers, supply of electricity from the solar power, enhancement of sports, health and education sectors, cultivation of cocoa plants, requirements of health, cottage industries and others.

In his response, the Senior General urged all to grow cocoa plants for the sake of the region and residents to strive for increasing the income of the region.

Union ministers submitted reports on plans to conduct tailoring courses and assist in cottage industries, assistance for the agriculture sector, fulfilment for the health sector, installation of communication networks and arrangements for the education sector.

In his speech, the Senior General praised that there is clearly visible development and progress in Cocokyun Township that is entirely different from before. Regardless of what support is provided, the local people of Cocokyun Township must work together and make collective efforts for the development of their region.

He underlined that it is necessary to consider the plans to expand the urban areas without harming the cultivable lands. Officials have to manage the food security for residents.
He revealed a plan to send officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation to Cocokyun Township to reclaim farmlands and highland farmlands.

He noted that regarding food security, it is necessary to gradually improve the situation in Cocokyun town step by step, depending on the township population: first, ensuring 25 per cent sufficiency, then 40 per cent sufficiency, and eventually achieving 100 per cent sufficiency, progressing steadily from one stage to the next.

He instructed officials and residents to engage in raising chicken, pigs and goats on a manageable scale in addition to agricultural tasks, adding that the livestock activities must be suitable for the region.

He highlighted that, as residents have to operate production of goods made of coconuts in Cocokyun, they have to grow quality strains of coconuts in the region.

The Senior General explained that the region requires skilled human resources to operate the production of value-added products. If the people who have learned school education are trained to have knowledge and techniques of cottage industries, Cocokyun Township will see improvement in the production activities.

Moreover, he expressed a plan to develop the tourism industry in the Cocokyun region, so officials need to make preparations for the tourism services, he added.

He spotted that the student-to-teacher ratio is favourable in Cocokyun Township, allowing for more effective teaching and enabling students to achieve greater educational progress.

The Senior General presented foodstuffs for residents and departmental personnel and stationery for the Basic Education High School of Cocokyun to officials.

After the meeting, the Senior General cordially greeted the attendees.
