A delegation of four Belarusian musicians and singers, led by Belarusian musician-cum-vocalist Mr Vladimir Sukolinsky, visited the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon yesterday morning to pay homage as part of their visit to promote friendship between Myanmar and Belarus.
The entertainment troupe first arrived at the Shwedagon Pagoda, where they were welcomed by the trustees and offered flowers, water, and oil lamps to the pagoda. Afterwards, they visited the Jade Buddha image and viewed the exhibits in the Buddhist Museum with interest. They then took a group photo at victorious Landplot and offered water to the pagoda. Finally, after examining the King Thayawady Bell, they visited the souvenir shop to buy souvenirs.
In the evening, the third goodwill concert of the Belarusian Music Ensemble was held at the RC Hall of Yangon University of Foreign Languages. The event was attended by Daw May San Yie, Rector of Yangon University of Foreign Languages; the vice-chairman of the Myanmar-Russia Friendship Association; officials from the Russian Embassy; and teachers and students from Yangon University of Foreign Languages.
Vice-Chairman Mr Alexander Ostrovskiy of the Myanmar-Russia Friendship Association delivered the opening speech at the ceremony. Then, under the leadership of Belarusian musician and vocalist Mr Vladimir Sukolinsky, singers Ms Nadezhda Bryleva and Ms Anzhelika Zaitseva performed a total of 17 songs, including one about the traditional love between Russia and Belarus, another commemorating the 25th anniversary of Belarus–Myanmar friendship, a song about the historic city of Bagan, as well as various Belarusian traditional and contemporary pieces.
After the performance, Daw May San Yie, Rector of Yangon University of Foreign Languages, delivered a speech of thanks and presented the Belarusian artistes with honorary gifts.
The troupe arrived in Myanmar on 5 October and performed at Mandalay City Hall that evening, and at the Defence Services Technological Academy on the evening of 6 October. The Myanmar–Russia–Belarus trilateral concert will continue in Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw.
