An auspicious ceremony to place concrete for the connection of the Myanmar-Korea Friendship (Dala) Bridge took place at the venue in Yangon Region yesterday morning.
On the occasion, Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, laid concrete to connect the parts of the bridge with the use of the controller.

Also, present at the ceremony were Commission Secretary and Joint Executive Chief General Ye Win Oo, Union Ministers U Mya Tun Oo, Dr Charlie Than and U Myo Thant, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, senior Tatmadaw officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the commander of Yangon Command and officials.

When the Acting President and SSPC Chairman of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar arrived at the venue to connect the bridge parts with concrete, Union Minister for Construction U Myo Thant reported on the Myanmar-Korea friendship (Dala) bridge project.
The Acting President and SSPC Chairman of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar presented the fruit basket to engineers who participated in the bridge construction project.
He then unveiled the ceremony and connected the bridge parts with concrete using the controller, and sprinkled scented water on the connected area.

They all had documentary photos taken in commemoration of the concrete laying ceremony of connecting the bridge. The Acting President and SSPC Chairman of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar viewed around the progress of implementing the project and gave necessary guidance to officials.

The Myanmar-Korea Friendship (Dala) Bridge Construction Project was initiated following discussions held during former President U Thein Sein’s state visit to the Republic of Korea in 2012, during which both countries agreed to implement a Myanmar-Korea friendship project in Myanmar. The project officially commenced in 2013, and pre-engineering works were completed by 2015. Design processes had begun in preparation for the start of bridge construction. During the bridge construction period, progress was delayed due to challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and other difficulties. However, after the current government assumed national responsibility, state funds were allocated to cover the remaining expenses, allowing the project to be completed. The Myanmar-Korea Friendship (Dala) Bridge is a cable-stayed steel bridge with four traffic lanes. The main bridge measures 2,264 feet in length, while the approach bridge on the Yangon side is 1,891 feet long, and the approach bridge on the Dala side is 1,972 feet long. The connecting roads on both sides total 3,453 feet in length, bringing the overall length of the entire bridge to 6,127 feet.

The Bridge is the highest navigational clearance steel cable-stayed bridge ever constructed in Myanmar. With a clearance height of 160 feet and a width of 990 feet, it allows safe passage for large international ocean-going vessels weighing up to 15,000 tonnes, as well as domestic water transport ships to pass beneath it. The bridge is designed to support a maximum vehicle load of 75 tonnes per vehicle. Through the construction of this bridge, Myanmar engineers have gained valuable experience and technical expertise in the design, construction, and application of modern technologies related to steel cable-stayed bridge engineering. Upon the inauguration of the bridge, it will provide convenient and faster connectivity from Yangon Region and Yangon City to Dala, Twantay, Kawhmu, and Kungyangon townships, as well as through Dedaye of Ayeyawady Region, such as Dedaye, Pyapon, Bogale, and other coastal areas. It is also expected to help ease the current traffic congestion in Yangon City to a certain extent.

Furthermore, the bridge will contribute to development across multiple sectors, including social, economic, educational, health, and transport sectors, and will become one of Yangon’s significant landmarks.
