THE 2025 ASEAN Day Commemorative Sports Movement ceremony was held on 4 October morning at the Institute of Sports and Physical Education (Yangon) in Tamway Township, Yangon Region. The event saw Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs and for Hotels and Tourism, and Myanmar Olympic Committee Chairman Jeng Phang Naw Taung, along with officials from the Department of Sports and Physical Education, the General Secretary of the Myanmar Athletics Federation, invited guests, coaches, and students.
In his opening address, the Union Minister recalled that during the 8th Senior Officials Meeting on Sports (SOMS-8) and the 2nd ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports (AMMS-2), which Myanmar hosted in 2018, it was agreed to observe ASEAN Sports Day annually across all member countries, starting in 2019. After the remarks, the Union Minister and attendees joined a fun walk and participated in an ASEAN Quiz, where prizes were awarded to the winners. This was followed by athletics competitions for men and women, including 100-metre, 200-metre, 400-metre, 800-metre, and 100-metre relay races, with prizes and honorary awards presented by the Union Minister and officials.
The Union Minister also visited tentatively selected athletes currently training in Yangon for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, observing their practice sessions in various track and field events and encouraging them to break past records with greater performance.
Later, he met with managers, coaches, and athletes from three ISPE FC football clubs at the assembly hall of the Institute of Sports and Physical Education (Yangon), where he delivered motivational remarks. He then attended the closing ceremony of the volleyball coaching course held at the Aung San Gymnasium in Mingala Taungnyunt Township, where he presented commemorative gifts and A, B, and C-level coaching certificates to referees and trainees.
In the afternoon, the Union Minister inspected the training sessions of tentatively selected athletes in the Muay and Kickboxing events for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games at Theinbyu Gymnasium and reviewed necessary preparations for improving the sports facilities there.
