Union Minister for Commerce U Chit Swe met officials from the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) and affiliated associations in Yangon yesterday.
During the meeting, the Union minister said efforts are being made to promote exports and increase export income in the 2025-2026 financial year compared to previous years. He noted that the affiliated associations are also managing necessary imports while increasing exports. They are encouraged to: promote exports, support members in exporting GACC-approved seafood products, find new markets in the seafood sector, and increase the production of rubber, oilseeds, and fruits. CMP businesses should continuously develop new markets, cooperate to further national economic interests, and report any difficulties to the authorities.
The President of UMFCCI then extended greetings. The affiliated associations and merchants discussed the strengths, weaknesses, and challenges encountered in their business operations, and the Union minister provided coordination on the presentations.
In the afternoon, the Union minister met officials from 10 shipping companies of the Myanmar Coastal Ship-owners Association at the Yangon Region headquarters meeting hall. The discussion focused on issues to be addressed according to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) when transporting goods from Ranong Port, Thailand, and Kawthoung Port, Myanmar. He also addressed the consequences of transporting illegal goods, relevant laws and regulations, and the need to facilitate the efficient transport of goods.
