A Myanmar-Thailand bilateral meeting on water quality management, aiming at enhancing bilateral cooperation in water quality management and monitoring, and preventing and controlling water pollution between the two countries, was organized at the Jasmine Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi discussed the formation of the National Water Resource Committee to conserve the water resource and quality in the country, the release of National Surface Water Quality Standards in 2024 by cooperating with international organizations, and activities to monitor the water quality.
Mr Prasert Jantararuangtong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society of Thailand, highlighted the water resource quality management measures of Thailand, policies for water pollution prevention, international cooperation, and pledged to work with Myanmar in preventing water pollution.
The relevant departmental officials of the two countries reported on the preventive measures for Nakhon river water quality, water quality management, surface water standards of Myanmar and further cooperation.
They declared a joint statement to further promote cooperation in environmental conservation, including water quality management, exchange information related to water quality, conduct technical discussions between relevant departments of both sides, establish a joint technical working group to enhance practical cooperation in the field of sustainable water quality management, and collaborate in areas such as technical assistance, capacity building, and knowledge sharing.
After the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society of Thailand and the delegation visited the Maravijara Buddha Image.
