Myanmar ASEAN Economic Minister and Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Dr Wah Wah Maung and Union Minister for Energy U Ko Ko Lwin joined the Ministerial Interface Meeting on Financial Mechanisms for the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) hosted virtually in Malaysia yesterday.
Speaking at the event, Union Minister U Ko Ko Lwin said the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank should continue assisting to ensure the participation of Laos and Thailand in the cross-border electricity project to meet the Myanmar’s electricity needs as per the ASEAN Power Grid Financing Facility (APGF) project to be implemented before 2045.
He added that Myanmar welcomes the investments for sustainable development in the regional economics and energy sectors utilizing its geographical position and opportunities. Moreover, the country will work with ASEAN countries to ensure energy security and development in the energy sector in the country and also in regional countries.
Union Minister Dr Wah Wah Maung said all should focus on the effective and inclusive approach to enhancing energy security, accessibility, and resilience. As Myanmar is rich in energy resources, the country welcomes investments of ASEAN member states in the energy sector.
The meeting served as a strategic policy dialogue to develop strategies for the ASEAN Power Grid Financing Facility (APGF) and financial assistance of the Asian Development Bank and World Bank for the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) across ASEAN.
