The first meeting of the Central Committee on Security Supervision during the Multiparty Democracy General Election took place yesterday afternoon at the Areindama Hall of the Myanmar Police Force Headquarters.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Central Committee on Security Supervision, Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung, along with Vice-Chairpersons, Central Committee members, a representative from the Union Election Commission, the Chairman and members of the Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory Committee on Security Supervision, and officials from the Myanmar Police Force Headquarters. Meanwhile, the chairpersons and members of the committees for security supervision from the regions and states joined via videoconference.

The Union minister first stated that preliminary coordination meetings were held with officials from the Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, regions, and states on 14 June and 13 July to ensure the successful organization of the 2025 multiparty democracy general election. He also noted that the Law on the Protection of Multiparty Democratic General Elections from Obstruction, Disruption and Destruction was approved and enacted on 29 July. Under this law, the Central Committee on Security Supervision was formed with 14 members, and yesterday’s meeting marked its first session. He also mentioned that committees for security supervision have been formed at various levels, including the Union Territory, regions, states, self-administered zones and divisions, district, and township levels.

The Union minister emphasized that all officials are to implement the Head of State’s directives: to hold a free and fair multiparty democracy general election, to hand over state responsibilities to the newly formed government, to ensure all eligible voters can cast their ballots, and to guarantee a secure election. He stressed the importance of paying special attention to preventing security breaches during the electoral period, as well as the need to accelerate efforts in crime reduction and the rule of law to maintain regional stability and community peace. He urged the various-level committees on security supervision to understand their duties and powers under the law and to make special efforts in their security responsibilities, coordinating with relevant departments and partner organizations.

Following this, Deputy Chief of Police (2) Police Maj-Gen Aung Naing Thu gave a presentation on the Law on the Protection of Multiparty Democratic General Elections from Obstruction, Disruption and Destruction, which was enacted on 29 July. Subsequently, Police Brig-Gen Thet Naing, Chief of Police Staff as well as Joint Secretary of the Central Committee, presented the proposed security arrangements for the general election period.

Afterwards, the chairpersons of the committees on security supervision from the regions and states presented their respective security plans. Central Committee members and the representative from the Union Election Commission also put forward their discussions. A mutual discussion and coordination took place on the points raised, and the Union minister provided supplementary instructions as necessary.
