WITH the assistance of UNESCO, a team, including foreign experts from the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization and the Regional Department of Archaeology and Fine Arts, will conduct the second phase of field inspections on ancient heritage buildings in the Mandalay Region that were damaged by the Mandalay earthquake.
They visited Amarapura, Inwa, and Mandalay in the Mandalay Region from 14 to 21 July to conduct a first-phase inspection of the damage to cultural heritage, with the second phase scheduled to begin in the third week of August.
Experts conducted field visits to the Shwegugyi Pagoda in Amarapura; the Four-Storeyed Monastery in Inwa; Mae Nu Oakkyaung; Kyauktawgyi Pagoda, Kuthodaw Pagoda, and Mandalay Palace in Mandalay Region to carry out advanced inspections aimed at determining emergency restoration measures as part of a long-term restoration plan.
