Authorities repatriated 46 Vietnamese nationals involved in online gambling, telecom fraud and other crimes, who had illegally entered Myanmar through border routes via neighbouring countries, including Thailand. These individuals had operated in areas such as Myawady, Shwe Kokko, KK Park and Khaukkhet in Kayin State.
Officials carried out the repatriation through the Myanmar–Thailand Friendship Bridge II, in line with legal procedures and with consideration for humanitarian principles and international goodwill.
To ensure a systematic and smooth repatriation process, U Myint Phone, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Immigration and Population for Kayin State, met with relevant departmental teams to inspect documentation and verify the accuracy of data. The handover ceremony followed, with official documents transferred to respective representatives from Thailand and the Vietnamese Embassy to Thailand. Attendees included Mr Hoang Minh Hai, First Secretary of the Vietnamese Embassy to Thailand, and officials from Thailand’s Tak Province Immigration Office.
From 30 January to 15 July 2025, authorities apprehended a total of 9,224 foreign nationals who had illegally entered Myanmar. Of these, 9,055 individuals were repatriated to their respective countries through Thailand, while 169 remain to be transferred and are currently held under proper care.
The State is actively pursuing action against those involved in online scam operations and foreign masterminds, while also cooperating to repatriate foreign victims of trafficking or hardship as quickly and responsibly as possible. — MNA/KZL
