Two foreign nationals, one from China and another from Pakistan, who had illegally entered Myanmar via neighbouring countries, including Thailand, were recently apprehended in the KK Park area near Myawady in Kayin State, according to authorities.
These individuals reportedly entered Myanmar through border routes and were involved in illicit activities such as online gambling, cyber scams, and other crimes. Security teams were able to identify and detain them during further inspection operations carried out today.
The relevant interdepartmental task forces are now processing the necessary documentation and personal records to facilitate the repatriation of the two nationals to their respective home countries as swiftly as possible. Officials oversaw the verification process and addressed any immediate needs on site.
Between 30 January and 10 July 2025, Myanmar authorities successfully apprehended a total of 9,224 foreigners who had entered the country illegally. Of these, 9,009 individuals were repatriated systematically to their countries via Thailand as per legal procedures, while the remaining 215 are currently being prepared for transfer. These individuals are being held in proper custody pending deportation.
The State continues its crackdown on those involved in online scam centres and is taking firm action against foreign nationals operating behind the scenes. Simultaneously, the government is actively cooperating with relevant countries to expedite the return of foreigners who have fallen victim to human trafficking or are otherwise in distress, according to official sources.
