COORDINATED efforts by various organizations and local communities remain in full force across the regions affected by the powerful Mandalay earthquake, which caused widespread destruction. Emergency relief and rehabilitation work continue with strong momentum, according to local sources.
Lt-Gen Thet Pon from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) and officials visited several religious buildings and pagodas in Sagaing yesterday that had sustained damage. The team inspected residential buildings and roadside debris in Sagaing, coordinating with relevant authorities to ensure a clean and orderly urban environment. They provided refreshments to workers and discussed necessary support with responsible personnel.
Lt-Gen Thet Pon and party viewed the cleaning of school buildings damaged by the earthquake at Sagaing Education Degree College, the relocated modular houses for earthquake victims in village areas, the completed construction of modular houses in the Maha Sekongyi Pagoda compound, and the renovation of religious buildings. They worked with authorities to make additional necessary arrangements.
The team also oversaw the final clearance of residential buildings destroyed by the earthquake in Sagaing using heavy machinery. They monitored healthcare services provided to earthquake-affected monks, nuns, and residents by the Tatmadaw Mobile Medical Team and observed the purification of the Ayeyawady River by the Tatmadaw water purification vehicle to ensure the availability of clean drinking water.
Similarly, Lt-Gen Soe Tint Naing from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) and his team visited reconstruction and cleaning efforts at religious buildings and pagodas in Aungmyaythazan, Mahaaungmyay and Amarapura Townships, Mandalay Region, where quake-damaged structures remained. They observed the use of heavy machinery to clear building debris and inspected the process of sorting and returning recovered materials to their rightful owners through official channels. Afterwards, they made donations to the Sayadaw.
Lt-Gen Soe Tint Naing instructed officials to strictly enforce safety measures. Additional coordination was made based on reports submitted by responsible personnel.
