UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat the illicit trade are continued effectively by the law.
On 11 and 12 June, the combined teams impounded illegal teaks weighing 0.478 tonne, other illegal timbers weighing 1.490 tonnes, charcoal weighing 9.6 tonnes, 45 logs with a power-tiller worth K4.637 million in Myanaung, Myaungmya and Pathein districts, three vehicles (approximately K163 million), heading to Mandalay from Muse, carrying industrial materials, consumer goods and foodstuffs valued at K588.244 million without official documents on the Hanmyitmo-Ywangan Road. The action was conducted under the Forest Law and Customs procedures.
On 12 June, the combined on-duty teams seized industrial materials valued at K5.323 million without official documents from a container at the Asia World Port, a Mitsubishi Fuso tractor head with a trailer (estimated value of K67.5 million), travelling from Mawlamyine to Yangon, carrying industrial materials valued at K21.168 million on the Bago detour and Isuzu Giga tractor head with a trailer (estimated value of K75 million), travelling from Hpa-an to Mandalay, carrying consumer goods worth K20.287 million without official documents near Nyaungkhashay x-ray station. The action was conducted per Customs procedures.
Similarly, on 13 June, the combined teams seized a Hino Profia truck (estimated value of K30 million), heading to Yangon from Myawady, carrying consumer goods worth K5.966 million without official documents on the Yangon-Mandalay Highway in Indagaw, the MV Sein Min Thar (estimated value of K1.5 million), travelling from Kawthoung to Yangon, at the Shwe Mé Jetty, carrying two kinds of industrial materials worth K61.791 million and illegal teak weighing 2.832 tonnes worth K1.608 million in Toungoo and Pyay districts. The action was taken under the Forest Law and Customs procedures.
Furthermore, combined teams nabbed foodstuffs worth K5.76 million that were smuggled and piled up by the Mongzin village detour near the Nawngnon checkpoint in Kengtung Township and 11 unregistered vehicles and 67 unregistered motorbikes, according to the Myanmar Police Force. The action was taken under the Forest Law and Customs procedures.
The Steering Committee reported 32 arrests on three consecutive days from 11 to 13 June, seizing illegal goods worth approximately K2.55 billion.
