Rescue and rehabilitation operations are being implemented in the areas facing extensive loss and damage caused by the Mandalay earthquake.

Yesterday, Lt-Gen Thet Pon from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) inspected the renovation of damaged religious edifices at Laykyun Manaung Pagoda in Sagaing. He observed the demolition of damaged buildings and removal of debris at SunU Ponnyashin Pagoda, Umin Thonze Pagoda, Shwehintha Monastery and Thakyadita Nunnery in Sagaing. He also viewed the construction of temporary buildings for members of the Sangha at Laykyunmyay Monastery in NanU Myothit and healthcare services of the Tatmadaw medical team to people at the 700th Anniversary Sports Ground. While in Sagaing, he looked into the removal of the damaged school building and the construction of temporary school buildings at the No 1 Basic Education High School.

Lt-Gen Myo Moe Aung from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) oversaw the clearing of debris at damaged public houses in Chanayethazan Township and instructed officials to take care of worksite safety and to ensure traffic safety for people. He inspected the demolition of “A” building at Sky Villa in Aungmyaythazan Township, the clearing of debris, and the handover of precious objects from Sky Villa to the object acceptance and handover body.

Lt-Gen Soe Tint Naing from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) viewed round beautification of No 18 BEHS and renovation of damaged buildings in Mandalay royal city in Aungmyaythazan Township. He looked into the demolition of dangerous public buildings in Mawragiwa Ward of Chanayethazan Township and instructed officials to take care of worksite safety.

Lt-Gen Myo Thant Naing from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) observed progress in the construction of temporary staff housing of the Kyaukse District General Administration Department and the construction of modular container houses in the district’s Small-scale Industries Department. He also inspected the renovation of the embankment of the Zawgyi River carried out by the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department in Kyaukse, the progress of the new school building at the BEHS Branch (Myinsaing) and the damaged Shwemyintin Pagoda in Belin Village-tract in Singaing Township.
