Due to heavy rainfall in Myitkyina, Kachin State, the water level of the Ayeyawady River has been rising since 1 June, resulting in flooding in riverside neighbourhoods. People affected by the floods are currently taking temporary shelter in monasteries and schools that remain unaffected by the water.
Yesterday afternoon, food items donated by families of Tatmadaw (Army, Navy, and Air) were delivered by military aircraft to the headquarters of the local air base, to be distributed promptly to flood-stricken residents.
Kachin State Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan, Deputy Commander of Northern Command Brig-Gen Yaza Htun, and other officials inspected the arrival and transport of the relief items.
Subsequently, the deputy commander and officials personally delivered the food items to flood-impacted people who are sheltering at monasteries and schools that are free from flooding, according to reports.
