TWELVE foreign nationals — ten from the Philippines and two from Ghana — were detained in the Myawady-Maethawtalay (KK Park) area, Kayin State, for illegally entering Myanmar and engaging in online gambling, scams, and other cybercrimes.

Officials from the Kayin State Immigration and Population Department led by Deputy Director U Myint Bhone conducted inspections and are now processing their deportation. The authorities are working to collect personal data and documentation for immediate repatriation to their respective countries.

Between 30 January and 3 June 2025, a total of 9,114 illegal foreign entrants were apprehended across Myanmar. Of these, 8,699 were deported through Thailand, while 415 are currently prepared for repatriation.

The government continues to intensify efforts against online scam and human trafficking networks by targeting both foreign perpetrators and their local facilitators, while also ensuring that trafficking victims are swiftly returned to their home countries.
