UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat the illicit trade are continued effectively by the law.

On 23 May, the combined teams impounded three unregistered motorbikes (approximately K57 million) in Sagaing and Monywa townships, a Mitsubishi Fuso truck (estimated value of K60 million), travelling from Yangon to Mawlamyine, carrying foodstuffs worth K15 million without official documents, smuggled foodstuffs valued at K2.073 million that were piled up by the roadside near Maeyan combined checkpoint, industrial materials worth K60.385 million without official documents from a container at the Thilawa Port and a Scania bus (estimated value of K100 million), heading to Mandalay from Yangon, carrying eight kinds of industrial materials worth K129.622 million without official documents at the Myitnge checkpoint. The action was conducted as per Customs procedures.

On 24 May, the combined on-duty teams seized four kinds of industrial materials valued at K150 million without official documents from a warehouse in Hpa-an Township. The action was taken in line with Customs procedures.

The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported 13 arrests on 23 and 24 May, seizing illegal goods worth approximately K474 million.
