Exercising authority under Section 6 (e) of the 2018 Forest Law, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation (MNREC) declared 6,383 acres in Thazi Township, Meiktila District, Mandalay Region, as the “Wahywet Protected Public Forest” through Order 43/2025 on 30 April 2025.
The designation by MNREC aims to preserve biodiversity, regulate climate, conserve tropical forests, reduce temperature, and maintain a green environment by establishing reserved forests and protected public forests.
The designation of the Wahywet Protected Public Forest aims to safeguard significant tree species, protect endangered wildlife and other fauna, and provide benefits such as increased forest cover, improved soil quality, groundwater conservation, and a more favourable climate.
