Union Minister for Labour U Chit Swe attended the International Workers’ Day event in Hlinethaya (West) Township yesterday.

The Union minister first read out the message sent by Senior General Thadoe Maha Thray Sithu Thadoe Thiri Thudhamma Min Aung Hlaing to the occasion.

The Union minister, the Yangon Region chief minister and relevant officials then cut the ceremonial ribbon to inaugurate the Job Fair marking International Workers’ Day, and observed the staff of the ministry who issue labour cards, job applicants, participants from factories, workshops and companies.

The Ministry of Labour aims to create a peaceful and stable working environment by establishing good tripartite relations among the Government, employers and employees, enforcing labour legislation for getting benefits included in labour laws, promoting occupational safety, reducing occupational accidents and disease, enhancing decent work within the nation and overseas, and ensuring to be safe migration, conducting skills training to upgrade the competitiveness of the workforce, implementing social security scheme to provide social protection and healthcare for insured workers, settling labour disputes under labour laws concerned, conducting research on labour affairs, and collecting and compiling labour market information, and collaborating on international and regional labour affairs.

The ministry also organized job fairs with One Stop Service, and factories, workshops and companies, including 52 licensed local job agencies, participated in the job fair yesterday.

At noon, the Union minister and officials proceeded to the National Occupational Safety and Health Training Centre in Hlinethaya (East), and met officials and instructed them to provide education expenses for full-time students and 40 per cent of family benefits for insured quake-affected labourers as per the provisions in the 2012 Social Security Law.
