Education is essential not only for individuals but also for the country, as the more literate and educated people are, the more valuable they become in life, said Deputy Minister for Information U Ye Tint in a meeting with students from Mawlamyine University yesterday.
He also highlighted the importance of individuals continuing their studies not only to obtain a degree but also to become experts, scholars, and specialists, urging them to strive for more than proficiency in skills and aim to be filled with wisdom, knowledge, and strength.
He then pointed out the key role of reading literature in enriching individuals’ knowledge and the importance of continuous learning throughout life, while also emphasizing the Head of State’s encouragement for young people to promote reading, warning that some young people today have misconceptions due to their lack of reading.
The deputy minister urged students to refrain from factors that could potentially destroy their lives, before explaining the efforts underway to restore national stability, hold elections, and transfer power, as well as the need to eliminate violence to achieve these goals.
He also explained issues related to conscription for public military service, managed under the law and regulations, the responsibility of every citizen for national security and defence, and the constitutional requirement for all citizens to engage in military education and service for national defence, as outlined by legal provisions. He highlighted ongoing efforts to ensure full compliance with laws and regulations, address the spread of rumours and subversive media, and publish accurate information in newspapers to enable the public to report concerns while urging students to remain vigilant and work toward preventing subversive activities.
Afterwards, at the meeting attended by 400 participants, the deputy minister donated books, magazines, and sports equipment to the university, and the Rector delivered a speech of thanks for the donation. The deputy minister also visited facilities in Mawlamyine, Mudon, and Kyaikmaraw townships under the ministry to inspect and provide necessary instructions.
