AUTHORITIES have detained an additional 109 illegal foreign nationals who had entered Myanmar through border routes after passing through neighbouring countries, including Thailand. These individuals were found in Myawady, particularly in the Shwe Kokko and KK Park areas, where they were involved in illegal online gambling, telecom fraud and other criminal activities.

The detained foreign nationals are currently undergoing identity verification and documentation by the relevant authorities to facilitate their swift repatriation to their respective countries. Between 30 January and 23 February 2025, a total of 2,220 illegal foreign nationals were detained in Myanmar. Among them, 673 were deported following legal procedures through Thailand to their home countries while 1,547 are now prepared for repatriation and remain under secure detention.

The government is actively combating online fraud, online gambling, and other cybercrimes, which pose significant threats to national security and the public. It is working closely with international organizations and local communities to effectively suppress and eliminate these illegal activities. Officials across states and regions continue to investigate, take action and prevent the resurgence of such crimes.
