IN commemoration of the Happy Chinese New Year, a ceremony to mark the China-Myanmar Cultural Exchange Week featuring Yunnan-Myanmar Intangible Cultural Heritage took place at the China Culture Centre (Yangon) in Ahlon Township of Yangon Region yesterday.
Minister-Counsellor Ms Cao Jing of the Chinese Embassy to Myanmar and Chairman of Myanmar Writers’ Association U Ohn Maung (Myinmu Maung Naing Moe) made speeches, and a video clip on the Happy Chinese New Year was screened.
Deputy Curator of the Yunnan Provincial Museum Fan Haitao talked about the snake culture of the ancient State of Jiang, the Researcher of the Research and Exchange Department of Yunnan Provincial Museum, the festival culture in Yunnan Province and Pro-Rector U Khaing Tun of the National University for Arts and Culture (Yangon), Myanmar’s festival culture.
Moreover, the reporter from China Media Group (Yangon Bureau) and the producer from Myanmar’s SkyNet TV recounted their experiences on TV broadcasting through collaborative efforts between Myanmar and China.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from the culture, media, education and tourism sectors of Myanmar, the Chinese community in Myanmar and Chinese investment organizations, China-Myanmar media, Chinese students from Yangon University, University of Foreign Languages (Yangon), National University for Arts and Culture (Yangon), National Management Degree College and GESC Chinese language centre.
The programmes of the China-Myanmar Cultural Exchange Week to mark the Happy Chinese New Year featured intangible cultural handicrafts, the process of fragrant sachets, lanterns and bronze wares showcased by the South Asian and Southeast Asian Regional Communication Centre in Yunnan Province and the Yunnan Provincial Museum. Moreover, teachers from the Chinese Community in Myanmar Hand-writing Association presented wishes for the festival. Furthermore, some 100 photographic works depicting beautiful cultural and tourism industries from Myanmar and Yunnan Province were also displayed at the ceremony.
