The National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) met the political parties’ working group at the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Centre in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

It was attended by Committee Chairman Union Minister for Border Affairs Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung, committee members, U Ko Ko Gyi, leader of political parties’ work group and chairman of People’s Party and other representatives.

Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung first explained the discussion made with political parties regarding the stipulations of the Constitution (2008) to be amended, actions taken based on the electoral suggestions of the political parties, plans to spread peace procedures among the public aiming at achieving stability, peace processes based on NCA and ongoing plans, current progresses in political affairs and successful holding of a free and fair multiparty general election.

Leader of the political parties’ work group U Ko Ko Gyi and NSPNC secretary Lt-Gen Min Naing clarified the meeting’s objectives and agenda, current political situation, role of political parties and potential cooperation between NSPNC and political parties.

The political parties’ work group tabled the motions and NSPNC member Lt-Gen Win Bo Shein (Rtd) discussed the opinions gathered for the points in the 2008 constitution that should be amended. They also exchanged views on proposals by the two sides for amendments and supplements to the 2008 constitution.

The second day will be on 24 January.
