The Ministry of Energy says it will conduct a series of studies and research to discover new oil and gas fields in 2025.

In line with the Ministry of Energy’s goal of ‘2025, the Year of Myanmar Energy’, field research will be conducted in collaboration with relevant universities to discover new oil and gas reservoirs and sedimentary basins by 2025, while also producing project-based research papers in partnership with these institutions.

In addition, research and laboratory work will be systematically carried out to obtain quality and accurate results, which are the most important factors in oil and natural gas exploration and testing.

The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Energy are currently collaborating to introduce a four-year degree course in Petroleum Geology at Yenangyoung University in Magway Region for the 2025-2026 academic year, with stakeholders providing support to enhance the capabilities of the next generation of geologists, petroleum engineers, and mechanical and chemical engineers, while arrangements will also be made to provide stipends to students based on their subjects.

The ministry will also coordinate the appointment of individuals who have obtained degrees in energy-related subjects, should they wish to serve in the Ministry of Energy.
