The Myanmar and Denmark Red Cross Societies held a meeting on 16 January at the Myanmar Red Cross Society (Yangon Region) to discuss the operation of child-friendly centres established in Myanmar.

During the meeting, Myanmar Red Cross Society president Professor Dr Myo Nyunt and Denmark Red Cross Society MHPSS Advisor Ms Patricia Carolina Guadelupe Dumazert discussed capacity-building programmes for volunteers, training for child-friendly centre caretakers, workshops to review centre operations and support for expanding mental and social assistance programmes.

Present at the meeting were senior officials from both societies, including Myanmar Red Cross Society full-time executives Professor Dr Daw Mya Thu, Professor Dr Daw Yi Yi Tin, Professor Dr Tin Maung Hlaing, Assistant Secretary-General Daw Ei Ei Htwe, directors and Denmark Red Cross Society Country Manager Mr Fabio Beltramini.

The child-friendly centres aim to provide emotional support for vulnerable children, promote good hygiene practices and offer a safe and joyful environment for play. One such centre has been opened in Taunggyi Township, Southern Shan State.
