Faculty members and students from National University of Arts and Culture (Yangon) made an excursion to observe pottery industries and laterite cultural works in Twantay Township of Yangon Region on 4 January.

A 69-member team comprising 25 teachers, administrative and research officials and 44 students from the Painting and Cultural Heritage Management departments, led by Rector Dr Kathy Htwe observed production process of pottery industry in Twantay Township.

Students asked about production process of pots and recorded the practical works whereas officials explained procedures of making pots.

Their observation aims to ease the process of putting the pottery industry of Myanmar on the cultural heritage list.

Those teachers and students also observed and conducted research on laterite cultural works at Maungtee Pagoda built of laterite which is an ancient pagoda decorated with the Mon architectural works in Twantay Township of Yangon Region.

The trip is intended to preserve the traditional craftsmanship of the Myanmar people, to practically teach production process of pottery industry and ancient laterite works to students and younger generations about tangible and intangible cultural heritage as a listed heritage item, and to enable youths to adore cultural heritage. — ASH/TTA
