UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat the illicit trade are continued effectively by the law.
On 1 January, the combined on-duty teams confiscated eight grammes of cocaine worth K400,000, which were found without official documents in a package delivered from Paris, France, at the Myanma Post Office (Yangon). Additionally, they seized the MV Thitsa Shwesin, estimated to be worth K1.75 billion, which was docking at Thakayta jetty and carrying three types of industrial materials worth K68.959 million, also without official documents, from Myeik to Yangon. The action was conducted per Customs procedures.
Similarly, on 2 January, the on-duty teams seized a shipment of consumer goods worth K18.45 million that had been smuggled and piled up by the side of the road near Kengpoung in Kengtung Township. They also confiscated a Yutong bus (estimated value of K40 million), heading to Yangon from Kawthoung, which was carrying three types of foodstuffs worth K4.634 million without official documents at the Nyaungkhashay x-ray checkpoint. Additionally, two trucks (estimated value of K60 million), traveling from Mandalay to Myitkyina, were found carrying 19 types of industrial materials and seven types of consumer goods worth K45.280 million without official documents at the Yadanabon Bridge (Mandalay) checkpoint. A Toyota Dyna truck (approximately K30 million), heading to Mandalay from Chauk, was also seized while carrying 14 types of consumer goods and six types of industrial materials valued at K40.429 million without official documents at the Myitnge checkpoint. Furthermore, six types of industrial materials and three types of consumer goods valued at K28.084 million were confiscated without official documents from a Yangon-Mandalay Up train at the Mandalay railway station. The action was taken following Customs procedures.
The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported 15 arrests on 1 and 2 January, seizing illegal goods worth approximately K2.086 billion.
