The Fifth National Sports Festival’s competitions continued yesterday at designated sports fields and venues in Nay Pyi Taw.
In the Under-21 Inter-State and Region competitions, the men’s 800-metre race saw Khaing Mye Aung from Bago Region securing first place, followed by Nay Myo Aung from Nay Pyi Taw and Waing Min Khant from Ayeyawady Region in second and third place, respectively. In the men’s high jump event, Nyi Nyi Htun from Kayin State came first, Min Myat Thu from Mon State was second, and Ye Chit Naing from Ayeyawady Region placed third.
In the Inter-State and Region men’s shot put event, Htet Kaung Wai from Magway Region earned first place, followed by Htet Lin Oo from Yangon Region and Than Pyae Aung from Ayeyawady Region. In the men’s 200-metre race, Kaung Set Zaw from the Taninthayi Region won first place, with He Pwe Hmu from the Ayeyawady Region second and Tin Moe Aung from the Taninthayi Region third. The men’s 100-metre hurdles event saw Min Thein Kha from the Ayeyawady Region in first place, Thiha Naing from the Ayeyawady Region second, and La Pyae Aung from the Magway Region third.
In the Inter-State and Region men’s volleyball tournament, Mandalay Region triumphed over Shan State with a 3-1 victory. Mandalay secured first place, Shan State second, while Kayin State and Nay Pyi Taw shared third place. In the women’s volleyball competition, Shan State defeated Taninthayi Region 3-0 to secure first place, with Taninthayi Region in second and Kachin State and Mandalay Region sharing third place.
The Inter-State and Region billiards and snooker competition held at the Wunna Theikdi Sports Complex saw intense individual and team contests in events like Snooker 6 Red, 9 Ball, and Billiards, where athletes from various regions competed fiercely.
In the Inter-State and Region Lethwei (traditional boxing) competitions at the Wunna Theikdi Sports Complex, athletes across different weight categories also showcased their talents, with notable victories such as Sow Shwe Win from Kayin State in the men’s 51 kilogrammes and Zaw Zaw Naing from Mandalay Region in the 54 kilogrammes.
In the Inter-State and Region 25 and under cricket competition, Nay Pyi Taw’s men’s team defeated Kayin State 24-0, and Rakhine Region beat Ayeyawady Region by 6 points.
he women’s cricket matches saw Yangon Region beat Rakhine Region 6-0, and Ayeyawady Region overcome Kayin State by 3 points.
The Inter-State and Region Under-21 Men’s Football Championship group stage matches were held at the Wunna Theikdi Sports Complex, with teams from Mandalay Region and Kachin State drawing 1-1, while Yangon Region defeated Chin State 4-0, and Magway Region triumphed 1-0 over Mon State.
The Men’s Sepak Takraw (Four-Person) Group Stage was held at Wunna Theikdi Sports Complex A, where Mon State won 2-1 against Shan State, Kachin State triumphed 2-1 over Kayin State, Yangon Region beat Kayah State 2-0, and Sagaing Region defeated Rakhine State 2-0.
In the Men’s Sepak Takraw (Four-Person) Semi-finals, Mon State won 2-0 against Kachin State, and Sagaing Region triumphed 2-1 over Yangon Region.
The Men’s Taekwondo competition took place at the Wunna Theikdi Sports Complex, wherein the 54-kilogramme weight category, Tun Lin Aung from Kachin State defeated Kyi Wai Yan from Sagaing Region, Nay Soe Shein from Rakhine State won against Htet Wai Kyaw from Bago Region, and more victories were seen across various matchups, with players from Yangon Region, Shan State, and Mon State also emerging victorious.
In the Ministry-Level Men’s Football Group Stages, the Ministry of Planning and Finance team won 7-0 against the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs defeated the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation 3-1, and the Ministry of Information won 2-0 over the Ministry of Energy.
At the 5th National Sports Festival, the Ministry of Transport and Communications secured two gold and one silver, ranking first in the ministry-level sports events. The Ministry of Defence took two gold and one bronze, placing second, while the Ministry of Planning and Finance secured two silver, taking third. In the regional sports events, Yangon Region topped the chart with 26 gold, 11 silver, and 11 bronze, followed by Shan State with 13 gold, 14 silver, and 22 bronze in second, and Taninthayi Region with 11 gold, six silver, and 10 bronze in third.
