CLAIMS that prisoners at Shwebo Prison are being denied family visits and are charged K300,000 for visiting rights are false, according to malicious news media like Khit Thit. On 3 December, a Facebook page called Khit Thit Media published such allegations, but investigations revealed they were incorrect.

Officials clarified that there are no political prisoners in Shwebo Prison. All inmates are detained for breaking the law, and visiting rights are granted according to the rules. Families are allowed to meet inmates once a month and send parcels every two weeks. The claim that visiting rights were denied for security reasons is untrue.

Records show that in October, 60 prisoners had family visits, and in November, 12 inmates were visited. Prison staff did not ask for money for these visits, and no prisoner has been treated unfairly. If any family has difficulty visiting or sending parcels to their relatives or friends in prison, they can report them to the authorities, who will investigate and take action if needed.

Officials said the claims from Khit Thit Media were false and meant to mislead the public.
