Senior General Min Aung Hlaing recounted that as arrivals of travellers in the first five months of 2024 amounted to more than 500,000, it is expected to increase number of international travellers this year more than in previous years.
Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing delivered a speech at the ceremony to mark World Tourism Day 2024 at the Myanmar International Convention Centre II in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.
Speaking on occasion, the Senior General unveiled that Myanmar, strategically located in the Southeast Asian region, is blessed with virgin beaches, high mountain ranges, archipelagos and fertile plains.
He continued that wonderfully natural beauties, ancient cultural heritage and traditions and lifestyles of national races are attractive to international tourists.
He noted that more than one million international travellers visited Myanmar in 2023. As the number of travellers in the first five months of 2024 amounted to more than 500,000, it is expected to increase the number of international travellers this year more than the previous year’s, he added. Hence, the Senior General explained that the government emphasizes boosting the tourism industry with efforts to surge the State economy.
He disclosed that the State Administration Council is giving priority to initiating the peace process. If leaders of national races keenly participate in regional development by joining hands with the government, regions of national races will develop speedily, he continued.
He noted that it is necessary to prioritize lessening riots and violence and peace and stability of regions as people can enjoy the fruits of peace by restoring peace for the establishment of socioeconomic life of national races.
The Senior General urged ministries and tourism organizations to enhance tourism services and disseminate trustworthy information about safe and sound travel to Myanmar destinations to travellers in a short time.
He called on all tourism entrepreneurs to cooperate with the government in initiating a peace process to ensure the long-term development of Myanmar’s tourism industry in line with the 2024 theme: Tourism and Peace.
The Senior General watched a video clip of a message from the secretary-general of the World Tourism Organization about Myanmar’s endeavours for the development of the tourism industry.
The Senior General awarded winners in the short video contest and coloured photo contest to mark World Tourism Day.
SAC Joint Secretary General Ye Win Oo and Council Member General Mya Tun Oo presented prizes to winners in the article, as well as impromptu talk contests and essay contest.
The Senior General visited the exhibitions to mark the 2024 World Tourism Day.
