Experts have been providing an online motivation training on 27-29 September to volunteers who are working on prevention, control and treatment on COVID-19.
In his opening speech at the virtual training, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Win Myat Aye, in his capacity as the Secretary of the National Volunteer Steering Unit, said that health workers, some government departments, volunteers, social organizations and charity organizations are taking important roles in controlling the spread of the disease, stressing the need to be careful to remain safe from the infection and remain vigilant, so as not to become infected by coronavirus or to spread the virus.
He said that his National Volunteer Steering Unit is cooperating with regional Social Affairs Ministers across the country for COVID-19 response efforts.
He pointed out that everybody needs to be careful not to be infected with the virus, and consequently the disease can be controlled in the entire country. He said that the health workers, officials, and volunteers will need enough high-quality protective equipments, so the government is compiling lists in order to fulfil the needs.
The Union Minister also talked about possible mental needs of the volunteers. He said that the training is intended to motivate the volunteers. He added that volunteers need to have loving kindness, sympathy, tolerance and faith in treating each other and working for COVID-19 response efforts. He said that he hopes the online training will motivate the trainees to have mental wellbeing.
During the training on 27 September, social psychologist Dr Aye Myat Lwin discussed “Analysis of self-feeling”, Dr Thet Tin Tun discussed “How to relieve stress”, and Dr Myat Thu San discussed “Self-encouragement and group encouragement”. Dr May Pyone Myint also delivered a lecture.
A total of more than 500 volunteers have been participating in the online training on their respective days.
Similarly, the National Volunteer Steering Unit provided an online training to 77 volunteers from Rakhine State, Yangon Region and Ayeyawady Region on 23-26 September. In that training, experts from the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement; the Ministry of Health and Sports; and Myanmar Medical Association delivered lectures.
