UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, effective measures are being taken to combat illegal trade in accordance with the law.

On 16 September, inspections led by the Customs Department’s management revealed several illegal items. At the Asia World Port Terminal’s container checkpoint, enforcement teams seized one container containing illicit equipment valued at approximately K125.75 million. Additionally, consumer goods valued at about K223.96 million were confiscated at Yangon International Airport. The total estimated value of seized goods amounts to K349.71 million. The action was pursued in line with Customs procedures.

Further, on 16 September, the Magway Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force seized one unregistered vehicle and six motorbikes, with a combined estimated value of K6.25 million. The action was taken under the Import and Export Law. In Mandalay Region, inspections led to the seizure of two types of industrial equipment valued at K44.62 million and a Mitsubishi Fuso truck valued at K30 million. Additionally, at the Paletwa checkpoint, nine types of motorcycle spare parts valued at K62.69 million and a Nissan Diesel truck valued at K55 million were confiscated. The total estimated value of the seized items is K192.31 million, with the action being taken as per Customs regulations.

In Ayeyawady Region, five unregistered motorbikes were seized, and the total estimated value was K22.5 million. The action was taken under the relevant laws. In Shan State, enforcement teams seized six types of industrial equipment valued at K2.12 million and an Isuzu Giga truck valued at K80 million. Additionally, four types of industrial equipment and three types of consumer goods valued at K21.64 million were confiscated near Kengtung. The total estimated value of these items is K103.76 million, with the action being taken according to Customs procedures.

On 17 September, further inspections by the Bago Region team at the Nyaungkhashay x-ray checkpoint led to the seizure of three types of consumer goods and two types of industrial equipment valued at K8.44 million. An Isuzu Giga tractor head, a Nissan Diesel tractor head, and two trailers valued at K140 million were also confiscated. Additionally, 2.23 tonnes of illegal timber valued at K1.96 million were seized. The total estimated value of all seized items is K150.40 million.

Overall, seizures on 16 and 17 September resulted in 26 cases with a total estimated value of K824.92 million, according to the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee.
