The Ministry of Health and Sports yesterday morning organized a virtual meeting with advisors on issues related to prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19 via videoconferencing.
During the meeting, the Union Minister for Health and Sports Dr Myint Htwe said that only if people in Yangon Region adhere to the “Stay-at-Home” order, the transmission of the virus will be controlled in two weeks.
The Union Minister said that the majority of factories in Yangon Region will be closed from 24 September, so the spread of the disease will be limited.
He said that officials will inspect the factories that have been allowed to continue opening in order to check whether they follow the COVID-19 related guidelines. He also stressed that regional authorities in all states and regions must supervise the COVID-19 containment measures in markets.
He said that people failed to strictly follow COVID-19 related guidelines when the first wave of COVID-19 became weaker.
He continued that there can be transmission of the virus even after the second wave of COVID-19, so people need to strictly adhere to the health guidelines. He added that the spread of the disease will be stopped only when an effective COVID-19 vaccine is widely available.
He called on all of the citizens to strictly follow COVID-19 related instructions.
During the meeting, Deputy Minister Dr Mya Lay Sein explained how they are working in order not to run out of COVID-19 preventive accessories, medical equipment and medicines.
Permanent Secretary Dr Thet Khaing Win explained the situations related to conducting COVID-19 lab tests by using Cobas 6800, RT PCR and GeneXpert. Similarly, other officials and participants explained their tasks and activities to control the spread of COVID-19 and make suggestions.
In response to the discussions made by the participants, the Union Minister made necessary suggestions. He said that local officials need to use handheld loudspeakers to educate the people about COVID-19 response measures in quarantine centres.
The Union Minister also urged medical experts, public health officials and management experts to cooperate in managing quarantine centres.
