The Ministry of Information held an online meeting with the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China yesterday morning. The meeting was held between the two headquarters in Nay Pyi Taw and Beijing. Union Minister Dr Pe Myint, Deputy Minister U Aung Hla Tun, Permanent Secretary U Myo Myint Maung and officials took part in the discussions with Minister of CPC Central Committee Publicity Department Mr Huang Kunming, Vice-Minister and Chairman of the China Film Bureau Mr Wang Xiaohu, Vice-Minister of Culture and Tourism Mr Zhang Xu, and Vice-Minister of National Broadcast and Television Bureau Ms Meng Dong.
Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Chen Hai, Patron of Myanmar Motion Picture Organization U Kyi Soe Tun, its Chairman U Nyi Nyi Tun Lwin and officials joined the meeting via videoconferencing from Yangon. Before the discussions, Vice-Minister and Chairman of the China Film Bureau Mr Wang Xiaohu presented the Myanmar movie ‘Nga Ba’ conserved in digital cinema package by experts from the China Film Archive, to commemorate the centenary of Myanmar Film Industry and the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries. Union Minister Dr Pe Myint expressed thanks for the digital version of Nga Ba movie which was created by Director Academy U Chit Khin in 1961 to the novel of the same title written by Myanmar veteran writer Maung Htin.

The film depicts the lives of Myanmar rural farmers who were oppressed by colonialists and fascists during Second World War. The movie also presents struggles for independence with national spirit. In the session of online meeting, Chinese Minister Mr Huang Kunming explained the main objective of the meeting to implement agreements made during the official visit of Chinese President Mr Xi Jinping to Myanmar in January this year.

He also talked about promotion of information sector, cultural exchange and cooperation between the two countries, as well as development of the strategic partnership cooperation in multi sectors which was agreed by leaders of the two countries. He also discussed better cooperation between the two countries which have marked the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties this year, economy recovery in the post COVID-19, further collaboration in mutual support for stability and peace in the region.

Union Minister Dr Pe Myint talked about participation of Myanmar film actors and screening of Myanmar films in Chinese film festivals, the joint project between Myanmar and Chinese companies for building a major film studio in Nay Pyi Taw, and cooperation in radio and TV industry between Myanmar private companies and Chinese TV stations. Myanmar staff members are working at the Myanmar programme of China Radio International. The MRTV has also signed cooperation agreement with the Guangxi Broadcasting Service (GXBS) in 2013, and produced Chinese TV series dubbed in Myanmar language, and has been producing some programmes with Yunnan Television since 2013.

The Myanmar News Agency (External) under the MoI signed the first agreement on exchange of news with Xinhua News Agency in 1963 and the agreement was updated in 2018. The Union Minister discussed printing and publishing of books between the two countries, including the translation of book series written by Chinese President Xi Jinping about the governance in his country. The meeting also focused on implementation of bilateral agreements in the post COVID-19, transfer of films and news documentaries stored in China, technical cooperation in new media and sharing knowledge.
