A ccording to the Directorate of Water Resources and Improvement of River Systems (DWIR), 16 projects are scheduled for this financial year to combat river erosion and landslides and to enhance waterways in Ayeyawady Region.

"In this financial year, there are projects for landslide prevention and waterway improvements in Ayeyawady Region. Nine will be funded by the State and seven by the regional government," said U Toe Aung Lin, head of Ayeyawady Region's DWIR.

The bank erosion protection projects, funded by the State this financial year, include safeguarding the Satumukha Pagoda in Lemyethna township, affected by landslides from the Ngawun River.

Additionally, plans are underway for waterway development activities to facilitate safe vessel navigation and improve waterways. An emergency protection fund is also being prepared, given the occurrence of sudden landslides in August and September due to high water levels.
