UNDER the oversight of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat illegal trade are effectively underway with actions in accordance with the law.
A joint team led by the Customs Department conducted inspections on 2 July, seizing 28 types of smuggled goods valued at approximately K141.67 million. These included an aluminium profile CNC rolling bending machine not declared in the import declaration form, which was found in a container at Myanmar Industrial Port.
Simultaneously, another team managed by the Sagaing Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force conducted inspections on the same day. They confiscated seven types of smuggled goods worth around K8.37 million, such as 2,064 short tins of Tiger beer and 1,272 short tins of ABC beer, at the Yadanabon checkpoint. Additionally, at Kaungmudaw junction in Sagaing, 1,900 iron pipes valued at K15.43 million were seized for lack of official documentation, which was in line with import and export regulations.
On 3 July, the Bago Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force carried out inspections, confiscating 2.11 tonnes of illegal hardwood worth approximately K1.43 million in Taungoo District.
Consequently, the Anti-Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported four arrests on 2 and 3 July, involving goods estimated at K166.91 million.
