A ceremony to mark the 2024 Myanmar Women’s Day was celebrated at the Myanmar International Convention Centre II in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning, attended by Honorary Patron of the Myanmar Women’s Affairs Federation Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, wife of the Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister.

On the occasion, the Senior General delivered an opening address through a video message.

He said that the role of women is essential in nurturing youths, promoting education qualification with five kinds of capacities, and becoming skilful human resources.

The Myanmar National Women’s Committee was formed on 3 July 1996 to prioritize the development of women’s affairs. As part of honouring those women, Myanmar Women’s Day is celebrated on 3 July 1998.

Efforts are ongoing to reduce the dropout rate of students, mitigate learning of education in relevant grades, and pursue vocational courses and higher education through collaborative efforts by parents, teachers, and authorities without gender discrimination.

According to the survey, 42.3 per cent of males and 51 per cent of females completed primary education, 25.2 per cent of males and 18.8 per cent of females were in middle education and 15.2 per cent of males and 11.7 per cent of females in high school education as well as 9.7 per cent of male and 12.9 per cent of female in university education. Such data showed that there is a need to promote the education qualification of women more than now.

In the education sector, 50.76 per cent of women are learning basic education, 63.60 per cent are in higher education, 47.19 per cent are in the science and technology sector, and 70.44 per cent are in related education. In the 2023-24 academic year, 64.31 per cent of girls passed the matriculation examination.

Priority is given to reducing the maternal death rate as an aim of reproductive health included in the sustainable development goal of Myanmar.

It is necessary to implement deserved entitlements for women, recognizing their capability to prevent violence against women, which can hinder the rights of women and gender equality.

The Senior General urged all ministries, government organizations and INGOs to participate in implementing 12 tasks of the national strategic plan (2023-2032) for the development of women schemed under the Beijing Action Plan and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).

Chair of Myanmar National Women’s Committee Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Soe Win reported on the development of women, empowerment of women, and prevention of violence against women.

A video clip on 12 tasks for the national strategic plan (2023- 2032) for the development of women was shown.

MWAF Honorary Patron Daw Kyu Kyu Hla presented medals, certificates and cash awards to outstanding women for 2023.

Honorary Patrons Daw Khin Thet Htay and Daw Than Than Nwe also awarded outstanding women.

The wife of the SAC Secretary and the wife of the SAC Joint Secretary presented awards to other outstanding women.

Wives of SAC members and SAC Member Daw Dwe Bu presented medals, certificates and cash awards to women’s entrepreneurship award winners. Wives of SAC members and SAC Member Daw Dwe Bu presented medals, certificates and cash awards to women’s entrepreneurship award winners.
