MORE than 900,000 local and foreign travellers paid visits to Mon State from January to March 2024, an increase of 61 per cent more than the same period of last year.

Foreign travellers came from Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and China.

Mon State Directorate of Hotels and Tourism manages the issuance of hotel licences, development of tourist destinations, seasonal festivals, promotion of the tourism industry and creation of new destinations.

Local and foreign travellers mostly prefer to visit Kyaiktiyo Pagoda, Kyaikthanlan Pagoda, Taungwyne Hill, Kyaikkhami mid-stream pagoda, the reclining Buddha image in Winsein Tawya, Setse Beach, Zinkyaik waterfall and Hsinywa waterfall.

December, January, March, and November are high seasons for travellers who want to visit eminent destinations. Hence, the directorate manages the convenient stay of travellers under the COVID-19 protocols and raises health awareness for visitors and hotel staff.

A total of 89 hotels and lodges in Mon State are ready to provide accommodation to travellers with 3,151 rooms.
